Copán Ruinas

A lovely colonial village that has grown up around the ruins — one of the most pleasant overnight stops on the entire Maya circuit.

Copán Ruinas is the rare base town that is a genuine destination in its own right. This compact, safe, and beautiful village — just 1 km from the entrance to one of the Maya world's most artistically refined sites — has developed an excellent traveller infrastructure: good restaurants, boutique hotels, and a laid-back colonial atmosphere. The combination of superb ruins and a pleasant village makes Copán one of the most rewarding stops on La Ruta Maya.
