Visa Requirements

Most visitors receive 90-day tourist visa on arrival. Part of the CA-4 agreement with Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua.

Currency

Guatemalan Quetzal (GTQ). US dollars accepted in tourist areas. ATMs widely available in cities.

Language

Spanish is official, but 21 Maya languages are spoken. English is limited outside tourist areas.

Safety

Generally safe in tourist areas. Use registered taxis, avoid demonstrations, and follow local guidance. Petén region (Tikal) is safe with normal precautions.
