Yucatán Loop

Mexico's greatest Maya sites in one classic week

Overview

The Yucatán Loop is the perfect first Maya itinerary — a self-contained circuit through the peninsula's four greatest sites, based in the elegant colonial city of Mérida. No border crossings, world-class ADO bus connections, and a Caribbean finale at Tulum make this a highly manageable week for first-time visitors. The loop works equally well in reverse and is ideal for travellers flying in and out of Cancún. A week is the minimum; ten days allows a more relaxed pace with cenote swims and market days built in.

Highlights

  • El Castillo at Chichén Itzá before the crowds arrive
  • The Magician's Pyramid at Uxmal at sunset
  • Tulum ruins perched above the Caribbean
  • Cobá's climbable jungle pyramid
  • Colonial Mérida as your stylish base

  • Afternoon: beach, cenote, or rest
